Ok, so you guys think that I'm nuts for stargate, you should see what some of the posters on the gateworld forums are like. For example, this week I've been posting in the Jack/Sam shipper thread, which is for people who want Jack and Sam to get together (yeah, it took me for ever to figure out what a shipper is). Now for those of you who are stargate fans and don't want any spoilers for season 9 I suggest you stop reading now ...
Are they gone? Ok, good. Now, as some of you may know RDA will only be appearing in 3 episodes in this season and Joe Malozzi, one of the writers has pretty much dismissed the possibility of Jack and Sam both being away on a honey moon or some such lovey dovey thing. Basically they're saying that Jack will be given a promotion to Hammond's old job and that Sam will be away (due to Amanda's pregnancy) is a place far far away. So, people at the studio who work on stargate are saying that the atmosphere is the happiest it's ever been. These shippers have taken this to mean that everyone there hates RDA for leaving them. This is but one of the whacked out conclusions that they have jumped to.
These conclusion jumpers have made me think about how much the written word can be grossly misconstrued. Interpretation is a dangerous tool. This also makes me think about how people write fan fics (stories written involving characters and settings already developed) and how badly they portray characters. Now, this could be just because they're bad writers, but I'll give them a little credit and say that they could probably do some alright writing if they were creating original characters. I guess some people just can't get inside the head of the characters as well as others, but some of the ones I've seen are just SHOCKING! If you're going to go to all the trouble of writing something, the least you could do is stay true to the character!
If I were one of the writers on Stargate I'd be horrified! Of course there's always the possibility that my interpretation is different to that of these fan fic writers and different still from the characters ... but honestly, I think I could write a story that was much more true to the characters. Perhaps I should ... Then again, perhaps I should finish what I'm trying to write now before I start anything else new. That's me, Kirsty the bringer of many beginnings and few ends.
