Topical Tuesday again kids!! This week, it's the media!! Now I can hear you groan already, another fat chick complaining about the media's image of what a woman should look like. This isn't my quibble ... today.
The media (mostly the American media, you know ... Fox) can dictate what ever they want and people will take it. No matter what it is. I'll present you with a couple of examples: Bush being elected the first time. It just so happened that his cousin was working at Fox that night and decided to make the announcement that Bush had won Florida, thus winning the election. Now the other stations went "SHIT!! They know something we don't know yet, we have to get this out there right away so that we don't seem behind the ball!" and so all the other stations reported the same thing. That Bush had won Florida, thus the presidency.
For his induction, what ever they wanna call it, people came out in droves ... to throw shit at his car. Usually they do some walk down that road, they stuffed good ol' George W back in the car and rolled him down the road instead.
Way to side track there Kirsty, anyway, back to the media. If Fox say that the Americans are going to be bombed then they're all going to believe it, they're going to go out and buy a bomb shelter and rations and gas masks and all this other unnecessary crap, just because Fox said so. If it weren't for the media and the fear mongering, the American economy would fall apart. The wars that they wage on "terrorism" and other such things keep their country running.
Sure Fox bring us great programs like the Simsons and ... well no that's about it, but they're an evil conglomerate and there's no denying it.
I'd also like to turn your eyes and ears to the tabloids in the UK. The vultures with cameras and pens. They'll twist and turn a story till you can barely recognise what is actually the truth. Personally I blame the paparazzi for Princess Di's death, not that I'm a big royal fan or anything. It's just my opinion. Sure the truth can be boring a lot of the time, which is why you report on something other than movie stars' lives! If I want to read fiction, I'll go and get a novel from the library. I don't read all those stupid magazines like WHO and Woman's Day and all that shit, I read magazines relating to my industry and the industries I'd like to be in. Sure I read some entertainment magazines, but not the sleezy gossip magazines. I want to hear about what people are doing in movies that's new and fresh, that new piece of technology that is going to revolutionise the way that visual effects are done, or that new sound technique. I don't want to hear about Ben and Jen and Jen and Brad and Ang and Lesbo#1.
... Maybe this post belong on Fulla' Shit Friday.
