Third watch
January 28, 2007 11:02 PM

Over the last few weeks, I think two to three or so, I have been watching Third Watch. Now I used to watch this show when it was on Channel 9 here. I'd watch it with my mum and I'd watch Stargate and Seaquest with my dad. Then I got a TV of my own and I stopped watching shows with them and thus, stopped watching those shows. I guess I watched videos instead. About a month ago I happened to catch an episode on TV, so much had happened. So I managed to get a copy of all the episodes ... I'm missing Seasons 3 and 5, but I decided to skip over those rather than wait. So there are things that I've missed, but I've gotten the general gist of it.

I've just finished watching the final episode. I cried, honestly who couldn't. I'm sick of TV shows ending. They really need to go with the UK way of thinking about TV, which is "let's make lots of short series that are all kind of similar, that way, people will invest in the concept, rather than the idea". If you invest 6 years in a show, you're going to feel a loss when they're gone. Late in the second season, one of the characters dies, I cried, mostly because I'd gone all these years without knowing that he had died because I never saw those episodes.

Coming up this year is the end of Stargate SG1 as a television series. I've become incredibly invested in this show and in the idea of this show. I've idolised the characters, I thought about going to a convention and one day, I might just do that. This show has been going on for 10 years, that's a long time to know anyone, let alone someone who does something each week that makes your admiration for them swell. They have made over 200 episodes and I have seen every one, every single one. I've gone out of my way to see specials on the show. They brought in a couple of new actors who had been in another sci-fi show and I thought, shit, they're going to be on Stargate, I need to get to know them. So I watched their entire series and movie. I quite liked it, but honestly, who goes to those lengths for a TV show. I do and now they're ending it on me. Sure they have two movies in the works, but 2 hours of stargate a year is a whole lot less than 20 hours.

Now I know there's Stargate Atlantis, that's all well and good, but they're different, it will never be the same to me as SG1 has been. The redeeming factor is that my favourite character will be going across. for 14 out of the 20 episodes. Honestly, I'd like to see Jackson across there as well. He has a reason to be there, as does Carter, the rest of SG1 is just kind of replaceable though, you know, a body is a body, they don't really add too much intelligence to the story. Not that they aren't great characters, but there are already characters that fit their description on Atlantis. I really enjoy the interaction between McKay and Carter and I feel it will benefit the Atlantis show greatly.

A lot of people don't seem to share my opinion though. This is fine, they're entitled to not like the character, but they do need to give it a chance to see how it works. The people who quit watching a show because they're not pleased with the addition or subtraction of a character annoy me a bit, I guess they're not as invested in shows as I am though.

I haven't yet watched the second half of the last season of Sex and the City. I didn't get overly invested in that show. I enjoyed watching it, but I wasn't obsessed. I don't want that show to end, but I don't have enough of a commitment to HAVE to see what happens. I guess it's because it's not so much of an ongoing story arc as it is a series of smaller happenings.

That is all, or else I'll be here all night venting about shows I wish were still on. It kind of looks like I have no life and I suppose I don't, but someone's gotta watch TV, or else actors will be out of work and we can't have that!

Okay, I know I've been doing little more than posting videos from You Tube recently, but this one is relevant, it's the film clip for this year's theme song. Have a look.

A stroll back in time
January 25, 2007 12:09 PM

We're going to take a stroll back to our childhoods now, a time when we all used to watch Sesame Street, I'm going to share with you a few of my favourite clips. =O)

Teeny Little Super guy, possibly the coolest cup on the plant!

Cuppin' it up.

Yip yip yip yip yip yip, uh-huh, uh-huh!

Good old Crayons. Remember guys, this word has two syllables and differs in pronounciation from the word crown.

I think this one is some sort of montage of the pinball number clips. The creators were on some fucked up drugs when they came up with this one.

I love these weird ass little songs.

Again, weird ass little songs.

Good ol' Grover.

Once more, weird ass cartoon.

Aaaah the songs they used to sing, there was one about pigs singing about a new way to work.

This is quite possibly the best clip ever. EVER!

Yay!! Kermit the frog reporting!!!

Uh, not sure about this, the video seems to be broken, more on that later.

Some sort of strange bugs, licking things ... it's weird.

CAPTAIN VEGETABLE!!!

This was just cool, in and out!

You have to appreciate how well this is done and how difficult it would actually be.

Ever wondered how a saxaphone is made. I can tell you who they're made by ... Mexicans.

Ernie always means well ...

Every body's favourite game show host, GUY SMILEY!!!!

Oh no!! He's lost Bert.

There's nothing that isn't cool about this.

Another one of those cool ass songs.

Not so much cool as scary this one.

Opera at its very best.

Monsterpiece theatre, one of the best segments ever.

It's hip to be a square ... and I should know.

I wasn't really old enough to know Mr Hooper, but this is kinda sad.

My favourite Monsterpiece theatre.

Perhaps this guy should be more clear.

Okay, maybe those last two weren't from my child hood, but it was funny.

By the looks of it, my childhood pretty much revolved around Sesame Street. But I used to like other shows too!! Usually the ones that came after Sesame Street. You know, Captain Planet, Widget the World Watcher, Alex Mac, Aquilla, Super Ted. All of those. Man I miss being a kid.

Now although I don't recall seeing this as a kid, these two are just for Jordan!

And one last one.

Okay and one more, also not from my childhood, but I love Natalie Portman.

Blogging pantsless
January 24, 2007 11:17 AM

This is how my life should be, I'm sitting in an empty house, no pants on, blogging on My MacBook Pro. Speaking of which, here are the pictures as promised.

So there ya have it, my nice, new shiny MacBook Pro. =OD

Just be glad I didn't post pictures of me with no pants on. Also, that's windows Vista running there, it's nice and you know ... pretty.

Blogging machine
January 20, 2007 7:05 PM

Blogging again, I know, I've been a blogging machine these past few days, but I think that this new computer has just made it all that much more accessible to me. I am posting again from this machine, but this time I am using Windows Vista, which I have finally just managed to get connected wirelessly. It took a lot of work and googling, but I got there in the end.

I've taken some photos which I will most likely post later, Vista is really nice. To tell you the truth though, it is getting more and more like Mac OS X, the file structure, the file explorer, the side bar, the way the windows transition from one state to another. Next thing you know, they'll have a dock. The one bad thing I've discovered so far that I hate is the fact to do just about anything at all, you have to approve it ... which involves clicking a button. Not sure what the point of that approval is because anyone can click a freakin button. I'm sure there is some where to turn it off, but I'm not sure I can be bothered looking. I have firefox, I have msn, I don't think I need anything else.

I think this OS is going to be a big step up and a fairly large learning curve for the average user and I don't know if people are going to be ready for this. There wasn't much more room for them to build upon the current platform, it hadn't really changed too much since 95 and let's face it, making thing shinier can only get you by for so long before you have to do some actual work.

Off to Melbourne again
January 19, 2007 1:39 PM

OOOOH!! I almost forgot. I was sitting here thinking, now I had something really cool to blog about, what the hell was it? I got my leave approved for Easter, I'm goin to Melbourne for the long weekend again!!!! Woohoo!!!! I'm psyched. I wasn't for a little while, but now I am again. I'm gonna make it so that we have to go to the zoo. YAY!!!! Animals!!!!

We're gonna go and see the show Puppet Up. It looks hilarious. I've seen a short video for it on the website. It's like the team that brings you sesame street and the muppets doing an adult show. What could be better than vulgar, bad mouthed puppets. I ask you to name me one thing that is!

I'm a little scared, I just visited the toilet and the seat was up ... in the ladies room. I think someone is hiding something ....

Why must you kill the doctors?
January 18, 2007 6:00 PM

GODAMNIT STARGATE WRITERS, WHY DO YOU KILL YOUR DOCTORS?!?!?!?! WHYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?!?!

Have your say (0)

Sooooo tired!! I thought I had brokened my mac last night, but as it turns out, I just don't know how to use it correctly. Never mind though, I'm quite clear now. I installed windows and that seems to be the default OS that starts now which is slightly annoying, I'd rather have Mac OSX, I'm sure there's a way to change it. In fact, I shall look right now. If I lose this post, I'll be pissed.

Okay, so I can't find it, I'll look online later. This keyboard is really nice to use, although kinda small. It makes a nice yuppie sound when you hit the keys. I went and bought a case for it yesterday at Next Byte. Probably could have gotten something cheaper somewhere else, but I did get EXACTLY what I was looking for. The only down side is that it is a little bit too big, rigid and heavy, so I'm going to have to start bringing my back pack as opposed to my awesome satchel.

This morning on the bus on the way to work, I watched Stargate SG1, it was awesome. Man I love that show. My hopes have been answered and Samantha Carter, played by the amazing Amanda Tapping will be appearing in Atlantis. On the down side there are a couple of characters from that show that will suffer, which is less than good, but as long as I get my Carter fix, I'm not too fussed. Her and McKay together for 14 episodes is going to be comedy gold, GOLD I TELL YOU!!!

I'd now like to share with you, something slightly terrifying. Brace yourselves ....

That's right guys, I got hit by a car and my face is now hideously disfigured.

HAHA, just kidding, not that it's a laughing matter, but anyway. My mac has this program called Photbooth with a whole bunch of different ways to distort the picture. It is the single greatest program ever written. Except of course for this other program I found which saves videos from Youtube to your mac. Man I love this machine.

There was a crash on South Road today so the bus ride home was an extra 25 minutes which sucked anus. I did how ever get a lift home from the bus stop by dad though, which was good because this beast is heavy!

Tomorrow I'm going out for dinner with a bunch of the guys from work, then we're going out for drinks which will also be awesome. We're getting Indian, I like indian, it's good and tasty. Let's hope that I don't fall asleep in the middle of the meal. On the down side, I don't know how I'm going to get home, so I'll have to drive in and not drink too much.

My baby takes the morning train ...
January 17, 2007 2:10 PM

Well here I am, blogging for the first time on my new baby. That's right guys, I have now regressed to my fanboy-girl roots and I now have my very own mac. Dad got one late last year because his laptop was on the way out, I don't know why he got a mac though. I guess its because he used to use them when he worked at the submarine corporation, which is why we got one in the first place. I gotta tell you though, the transition from mac to windows was easier than the other way. I think the biggest change is going to be the one button rather than two. I don't in any way regret this though. It's something I've been thinking about for a long time.

Now I just gotta work out how to do all the stuff I wanna do. First off, boot camp!!! Windows here I come.

Schutzenfest
January 14, 2007 11:27 AM

Today is my 7th day working in a row. I'm working tomorrow also and then I have 2 days off, I'm kinda run down and I'm now eating McDonalds which is not going to help my case.

Yesterday after work I went to Schutzenfest and met up with Leanne, Jacqui, Chris and briefly Josh. I was wandering around on my own there for a while, but they got there eventually. I had two beers when really I probably should only have had 1 as I had to drive a few hours later. So they arrived and we had kranskis, baked potatoes and nachos, we danced to 99 red balloons ... in german of course. That song is like the best song ever, so we did that and sat down for a while, then it was time to go. I thought I would be fine but walking back to the car I felt a bit off. I drove around the corner .... and there was a booze bus, the last thing I wanted to be there. So there I am sitting at the traffic lights in my car, I grabbed my Powerade out of my .... that reminds me, I had one of those new energy drinks from coke, you know "MOTHER". It's pretty much chutney in a can. You go through this cola taste right onto chutney and it really isn't pleasant. So there I was crapping my pants at the traffic lights debating whether to chuck a u-turn and head back the other way and quickly remembering there was a cop there too, I took my chances and went around the corner. The station was full, I was safe. Safe but shaken up. I have no doubt I would have blown over, I wont be doing that again.

I had organised to pick Carly up at the Cranker and take her to BOHO where we were meeting everyone for April's birthday. I got her a monkey and a pair of boobs that are a stress ball ... because I call her ape tits. Aunty Bev was at BOHO and man was she switched on. Everyone got some tongue from her, except Carly and myself though, we didn't really dance. We were grannies and had coffee .... just so that we could get BOHO mugs because they looked a nice size. They were. Carly stole the saucers as well.

So I've come home with a stein and a mug. A rather productive day if I do say so myself.

Clerks 2
January 8, 2007 7:02 PM

So last night I went with David, Jordan, Adam and Hayley to see Clerks 2 at the Moonlight Cinema. Gotta tell you, that movie is gold, freakin hilarious. I dont really remember too much of Clerks, except for the dead guy.

All day yesterday I went through the pictures on my computer and posted the good ones to flickr, my favourites are the fire twirling ones. Have a look.

Goats of the Mountain and McFlurries
January 5, 2007 2:02 PM

Wednesday night was awesome!!! Carly and I went to see the Mountain Goats. They are the bestest band ever! Every song has a story, usually a hilarious one. I decided on taking my 400D and it was the right choice, I got some great photos, hooray for manual settings!!! I've done all the cropping and shrinking ready to Flickr them, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I would have done it last night, but I was busy trying to get my new hard drive to work ... no luck, but I now have NEW knoweledge that should enable me to fix it. YAY!!

So anyway, back to the mountain goats, we got there and the cute boy who Carly asked to the Cranker on Friday turned up with someone we think may have been his girl friend, he didn't see very friendly toward her though, so they might have been brother and sister ... we're just not sure.

Then disaster struck, Carly spotted Lauren and freaked the fuck out. I went through various techniques of trying to get Carly to chill the fuck out, but she has a mental disease and there's just no calming a crazy person. I quickly forgot about Lauren being there as soon as the Goats of the Mountain came out, they were that awesome. I sang along, I bopped slightly and I got angry at the man standing next to Carly tapping on some big black wooden case of some sort. I came so close to punching him. It was also hideously hot, on the up side though, they opened the exit door at the side of stage where Carly and I were standing, so we had a bit of a breeze. It was still slightly unpleasant.

After the show, we went and had McFlurries. Which reminds me of a funny story that Jacqui told me. When she used to work at McDonalds, someone once came and asked her for a McFluffy .... I know, hilarious. Anyway, Carly and I went and ate our McFluffies at Veale Gardens ... yes, the beat. We commented on how the restaurant owners might feel about operating in the middle of a beat, I figured they deserved it for opening there.

I'll Flickr the photos tonight, I promise!

Yearly wrap up
January 1, 2007 1:49 PM

So January 1st has rolled around once again and it's time to reflect upon the year that was. Last year, I did this with an image, the year before I did it, the year before I did a month by month recap and apparently the year before I did the same and previous to that I wasn't part of the blogosphere so there was no recap. It seems logical to me that this year I would do it with a song, but seeing as I can't sing or play any musical instrument I don't see that happening.

What I will do though, is name a song that is going to be my motto for the year. This may become a regular thing ... I guess it depends on how long this blog lasts. It's lasted this long without me getting bored and I seem to be posting more often so things look good!

Anywho, the song for this year is Opportunity by Pete Murray. Despite HATING myspace, I'm going to post a link to his myspace so you can listen to the song. < href="http://myspace.com/petemurray">http://myspace.com/petemurray.

So now that I've done that, I will go ahead and start the annual recap!

January:- So apparently I had a weird and somewhat hilarious dream this month that I now have no recollection of having. I suggest you go and have a read of it. I ordered my first tshirts from Threadless and thus began what I'm sure will be a life long love affair with them. I'm planning on buying a bunch more very soon, as soon as they send me my password damn them!!! ... Actually, damn me, I'm the one who forgot it. I went to a funeral in Barmera and I finished writing the first drafts of my TV show. I haven't actually looked at them since then, so I guess it's about time I pick them up again. I also listened to The Shins for the first time and saw Garden State ... I don't think I've been quite the same since. Also I met Sandi, well technically I met her in December the year before, but it was NYE, so it can count as both.

February:- I went to my first Big Day Out and aside from being burnt to a crisp, I had a freakin blast. I enjoyed just chilling out at the end of the night and watching the White Striped on the big screen. Franz Ferdinand were awesome also, I was really into them at the time, but now not so much. I organised with Vicki to take a trip to Melbourne for the comedy festival, at this time, she was still in the US. I ordered my first Ipod and returned to my apple fanboi-girl roots (my first computer was an LC-575 ). I saw Josh Pyke for the first time this month, he played an impromptu song or 3 in the street for those of us who couldn't get in, then we saw Nathan Page at the Fringe, it was a night of brushes with fame! The very next day, I bought my polaroid camer, which I must get more film for. I also bought a coffee machine which I haven't used for ages ... I could go for an iced coffee right now actually. I might go and make one in a bit, we do after all have a coffee machine here at work.

March:- So this was the magical month that I got my xbox 360, it was amazing and still is. I camped out, I was the first one there, but not the first one in. Damn security guard opened the wrong door first, there was almost some stabbage from me to him, but I figured he probably had a gun or something and I had but a small pocket knife ... if I even had that! This month I also had a boyfriend for a couple of weeks, but I liked my weekends to myself and he lived in murray bridge which was just too far to go for a visit, me being lazy and all.

April:- Melbourne, Melbourne, Melbourne! I went to Melbourne in March and it was awesome, we went on planes, we walked in the rain, we saw some comedy, we ate giant schnitzels and we went to Ikea. Perhaps the most important thing we did was buy alcohol from a deli ... A DELI!!! This month was also my birthday, which was rad, we went to the plaster fun house and had a blast, then we went to pizza hut and at in ... oh yes, we ate in! I bought a bike too, haven't really ridden it much at all, go me!!

May:- So apparently not a whole lot happened in May, I guess this month kind of gets overshadowed by April a lot of the time. I think it was about May when I started getting the hang of PHP which I was studying that semester. It's useful to understand that which you're studying and expected to use to complete a project.

June:- June also appears to be uneventful, I finished my TAFE assignment which I worked damn hard on and ended up getting awesome marks. I imagine it is simply because I was the only one who actually wrote their own program as opposed to copying off the guy who does PHP for a living and was just there for some formatting tips. It also appears I drank a lot. I made my first trip to the Belgian Beer Bar and this was also the month in which I drank a whole bottle of Canadian Club to myself and was violently ill. Much fun was had by all.

July:- Exciting things happened in June, but I did not blog much. I got my new job, which I am still loving, I posted my first youtube video on my site, I submitted my tax return and I went to see You Am I. They were okay, nothing special though. I'd always pictured myself working for the company I now work for and it feels strange to think that now I am ... I guess that kind of thing actually works every now and then. Weird.

August:- This month I was looking after Carly's cats while she was in Europe ... bitch! They kept me awake, so I didn't sleep there, I just fed them and watched TV with them for a while. 2:37 was also released this month which was cool, we went to my big screen debut and I was a star!!! Standing there looking all nonchalant and all that stuff. I made Carly a cake and mum put tomatoes on it ... tard. August was also the month when disaster struck, they cancelled Stargate SG1, I was shattered. They have now confirmed that they will be making 2 movies and possibly more if they go well. ~2 hours of Stargate per year is no where near enough!! I need my standard 20.

September:- Leanne and I started going ice skating regularly this month, we've been 6 or 8 times now, but not for a while. I haven't fallen once, although I still can't stop which isn't the best, but I'll get it eventually. I also had my wisdom teeth out this month. Now this is something I had been dreading since I heard that wisdom teeth existed. Honestly though, I need not have worried, it wasn't really anywhere near as bad as having my tonsils out. Still annoying though. I think I was lucky because mine came through fairly well and there wasn't much digging involved. My face swelled up which was unpleasant and the drugs they gave me were crap, neurofen was much better.

October:- This month Bec and Hamish got married finally after ~13 years together. I didn't think they ever would get married. When I found out they were engaged when we came back from Melbourne, I though "CONFORMISTS!!!". The wedding was really nice though and I drank lots and had a hang over, then we had BBQ cookup and cream puffs for breakfast. It was gold.

November:- We wented to the zoo, it was awesome. The day after that I bought my new camera which I love!! I figured I would get it for when I go away and I'm so glad I did, I got some awesome shots with it. I also purchased a flickr account and submitted a couple of photos to jpg mag, I don't think they're being published though. I spent most of this month looking forward to December when it was time to go away!!!

December:- The month I had been looking forward to all year was finally here. The 8th rolled around and I loaded myself into a plane and jetted off to Queensland where I had the best time! I met some great people, ate a whole lot of crappy crappy food, sweated a lot, snorkelled on the reef, rode the skyrail, flicked a march fly, got stabbed in the foot, did a runner at a wedding, drank a bunch of beer, got my sea legs and then failed to get my land legs and just generally had a good time. I can't wait till my next trip .... I'm thinking maybe a cruise, but I want all my friends to come because it's a case of the more the merrier. I did a runner from christmas and I worked New Years Eve.

All in all, it's been a pretty good year, but the year that will be referred to as '007' shall be even better!

Also, I congratulate all those of you who are quitting smoking as a new years resolution. We're proud of you.
