Well, what haven't I done today? I started from my place this morning at bout 9 am and headed out to Pooraka to Nikki and Michael's house. Transferred my shit in to their car and we were off at 10. Firstly though, McDonalds for breakfast, I think that is a rule when embarking on a road trip. It MUST start with McDonalds. Then it was on to Maitland, I've never been to Maitland, it was .... towny. We got the shots we needed and continued on to Minlaton, but not before getting somewhat lost. Google maps had a completely different idea of how to get from Maitland to Minlaton. At any rate, we got there in the end and no one died.
Minlaton was where we ended up having lunch, I recommend the Rendezvous cafe to anyone passing through. They apparently have awesome pizzas and they make them in a plethora of sizes, right up to "SLAB". Let's face it, who could go past a pizza that you refer to as a slab. Not me, that's for sure.
From Minlaton, we headed to Warooka, then Yorketown. Again, for some reason, google maps was under the impression that the drive from Warooka to Yorketon would be much longer than it was. Google maps reported 55 minutes, it took about 12. This brought us to about 3 pm and we were all kinda tired, so we headed to Nikki's holiday shack in Pine Point and napped for 90 minutes. It was nice, except I found it hard to sleep.
Finally, it was time to head to our last destination, Ardrossan. We had some trouble finding this one, so we had to ask for directions on its location. Eventually we were told, take the next road over, head about a mile out of town and you can't miss it, it's pretty massive. We eventually found it and got some day shots, then it was back in to town for dinner. We went to the Top Pub and I'm sorry to say, we missed out on the meat tray raffle, they were already calling it when we got there. It was such a pity. Nevertheless, dinner was pretty good, I had a steak that was about 2 inches thick, damn that was some good meat. Once the sun started setting, we headed back out and got some sweet ass dusk shots.
At last it was about 8:30 and home time, now here I am at home, finally at about 11:30. What was all this in aid of? Taking photos of radio towers, I know it sounds boring, but there could be money involved, so it may all be worth it.
More updates as they come to hand.
Now, we'll go back in time to last night, it's Fringe time and Fiona's back in town, so we snaffled tickets to her opening night discount show. As per usual, she was hilarious. The best part was right at the beginning, they forgot to turn down the house lights, so when she came out, the audience was lit up. So there we were, sitting up the back and I thought, well fuck, she can see me, I might as well wave. So I did, then Laura and Carly joined in and Fiona waved back and said "Yes, hello ... what's going on, I'm not supposed to be able to see them?". Some people down the front started waving back and we just laughed at them because they didn't get that we up the back had waved first.
So finally, Fiona got on to some new material this year, it wasn't about her kids. As much as I love hearing about her kids, it was nice to hear about some other things. For example, I never knew she was a nurse, I thought all she'd done in her life was grow up, get married, get moved to Alice Springs, mope for 8 years and then become a comedian. Apparently though, she was a nurse, although not a particularly good one by the sound of it. We also heard about how she and her husband met the queen and there was some audience participation in a psychiatry session.
Everyone should do themselves a favour and go and see Fiona O'Loughlin, if you don't you should never forgive yourself.
